Jason Scott & The High Heat are preparing to launch their latest album, American Grin, which is scheduled to be released on March 28 through Leo33. In anticipation of the album’s release, the band unveiled their new single, “Golden,” last Friday, serving as a preview of what fans can expect from the upcoming project.

This new album serves as a follow-up to their debut album, Castle Rock, and seeks to expand on their original sound by combining high-octane Southern rock with gritty Americana, a hint of honky-tonk influence, and anthems that are perfect for road trips. Throughout the album, a perfect mix of humor and depth can be found, whether it’s the tales of Friday night escapades in “Me & The Bottle (Hungover You),” the driving guitars in “Yardwork,” or the grandiose finale in “Maria,” which brings to mind the innovative sounds of Wilco and The Beach Boys.

Former bandmate Taylor Johnson handled the production duties for the album, which was recorded in both Oklahoma City and the Texas borderlands. Drawing inspiration from the local music scenes and cultures, the band incorporated elements of ZZ Top’s guitar style in “If We Make Til The Mornin'” and hints of mariachi music in “Interstate of Mind,” showcasing a diverse sonic landscape while remaining true to the band’s core sound.

Jason Scott reflected on the album-writing process during the pandemic, stating, “We wanted to be a little bit playful during such a serious time, to take a step back, observe the world around us, and find humor in the absurdities of American life.”

The tracklist for American Grin includes a variety of songs written by Jason Scott and Taylor Johnson, such as “Jimmy,” “High Country,” “Natalie,” “Intermission,” and “Bernadette,” among others. Each song on the album contributes to the overall narrative and musical journey that Jason Scott & The High Heat aim to take listeners on with their latest release.

Overall, American Grin represents a mature expansion of the band’s musical identity, combining elements of rock, Americana, and country to create a sound that is uniquely their own. With this new album, Jason Scott & The High Heat are sure to captivate audiences with their infectious energy and storytelling ability, solidifying their place in the music industry as a band to watch.
