The Black Keys Release New ‘Groove-Based’ Track ‘The Night Before’
Fresh off their recent tour announcement, The Black Keys have unveiled a captivating new single titled “The Night Before.” This track, set to be featured on their upcoming album “No Rain, No Flowers,” is an energetic and groove-based song that marks a new musical direction for the band.
Dan Auerbach, one half of The Black Keys, described the creative process behind “The Night Before” as a seamless collaboration between himself and bandmate Patrick Carney. Auerbach mentioned, “It’s so groove-based. ‘The Night Before’ started with a chord progression that Daniel and I came up with and the rest just fell out. It was really collaborative and all came together in about 30 minutes.” This behind-the-scenes insight provides fans with a glimpse into the organic development of the song.
Carney added to the conversation by articulating the band’s experience working with new collaborators, particularly singer-songwriter Daniel. Reflecting on the creative venue of Nashville, Carney shared, “We’ve never really worked with songwriters like that in Nashville. It’s crazy because Daniel was one of the first people I met when I moved to town over a decade ago. But we pushed ourselves to bring in some new co-writers, and we really tapped into something cool with Daniel. We’re finishing up the album now and plan to release more tracks leading into the tour.” This process of experimentation with songwriters opens up new possibilities for artistic growth and evolution within the band.
Accompanying the release of “The Night Before” is a visually captivating music video shot in black and white. The video features a hotel bell hop and maid who embark on a late-night adventure, bending the rules and engaging in spontaneous escapades throughout the hotel. With scenes of dancing in hallways, raiding a guest’s closet, and hiding out in the kitchen, the video perfectly encapsulates the lively spirit of the song.
As fans eagerly await the release of The Black Keys’ new album “No Rain, No Flowers,” “The Night Before” serves as an exciting teaser of what’s to come. With its infectious groove and collaborative spirit, the song showcases the band’s commitment to pushing boundaries and exploring new musical territories. Stay tuned for more updates and tracks from The Black Keys as they gear up for their upcoming tour.
