Cody Jinks collaborates with Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton on heartfelt new track “Brother”
The essence of country music is at the core of Whiskey Riff, where a deep love for authentic artists, both independent and mainstream, runs deep. Whether it’s the revered names of yesteryear like Waylon and Willie or the contemporary stars like Zach Bryan, Whiskey Riff remains a steadfast champion of genuine country music. From the roots of Texas to the heart of Tennessee, through the Appalachians and all the way to Bakersfield, Whiskey Riff proudly represents the voice of the country music enthusiast.
One of the most recent collaborations that has captured the attention of fans within the music industry is the joint effort between Cody Jinks, a prominent figure in country music, and Mark Morton, the lead guitarist for Lamb of God. Morton, known for his work in heavy metal, desired to explore a new sound in his forthcoming solo album “Without The Pain”, moving towards a more southern rock direction. Jinks, who has dabbled in heavy metal before transitioning into his successful country music career, found a common ground with Morton, resulting in a harmonious collaboration.
This project, set for release in April, features a lineup of country legends joining forces with Morton, such as Travis Denning, Jaren Johnston of The Cadillac Three, and Jason Isbell. The single “Brother,” a product of Morton’s Nashville writing session with Jinks and Denning, stands out as a deeply personal track delving into themes of family separation and estrangement. Morton, reflecting on the songwriting process, shared, “We all poured a lot of ourselves into this song, and I’m grateful to Cody for singing on it with me. I hope you’ll enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.”
The emotions captured in “Brother” evoke a poignant narrative of family dynamics and the pain of estrangement. Jinks’ robust vocals complement Morton’s evocative guitar melodies, creating a compelling blend of heavy metal, southern rock, and heartfelt country music. The lyrics eloquently convey the struggles of familial disconnection, with verses like “Can you look your mother in the eye? Do you feel ashamed when you speak her name Or are you high on your petty pride?” demonstrating the raw honesty of the song.
As Morton and Jinks combine their talents in “Brother,” they showcase a unique musical synergy that bridges the gap between heavy metal and country. The haunting beauty of the track resonates with listeners, offering a moving exploration of the complexities of family relationships and the enduring impact of estrangement. With this collaboration, Morton and Jinks have crafted a powerful and emotionally charged song that transcends genres and speaks to the universal experience of family dynamics.
