Pete Rock hints at upcoming album with Common following Grammys defeat for ‘The Auditorium Vol. 1’
Pete Rock remains undeterred by his recent Grammy loss and is already hinting at a new album collaboration with Common, following their previous project, The Auditorium Vol. 1, which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Album. Despite losing to Doechii’s Alligator Bites Never Heal, Pete Rock took to Instagram to express his gratitude for the acknowledgment of their work, stating, “Listen, 2 Grammy noms is better than none. We represented the culture the proper way and got nominated twice.”
In a subsequent post, he reiterated his love for the culture and positivity moving forward, stating, “WE LOVE THE CULTURE! WE GON KEEP IT PUSHIN S/O TO THE WINNERS TONIGHT,” and teased a potential sequel with Common, saying, “Auditorium Vol.2 will be a fun challenge for me cuz its all about being better than you were yesterday! We got this king @common Dont even worry bout it.”
Further elaborating on their continued partnership, Rock emphasized the excitement of having their music recognized on a higher level and expressed his gratitude for the acknowledgment in today’s music landscape. In a joint post with Common, he reiterated the sentiment by saying, “Its very exciting regardless of a win or loss. Its our music being recognized again on a higher level in a newer world and im truly grateful for that.”
The following day, Pete Rock shared a photo on Instagram with Common donning a version of The Notorious B.I.G.’s iconic tilted crown, captioning it, “VOL.2 WILL BE INTERESTING.” This teaser hints at the potential creative direction of their upcoming endeavor.
Pete Rock, alongside Black Thought, is also slated to appear at an upcoming “Tribute to Madlib & Benefit Show” at Brooklyn’s Crown Hill Theatre on February 19. The event aims to raise funds for Altadena fire relief efforts and will feature a lineup of artists including Just Blaze, DJ Spinna, Karriem Riggins, Statik Selektah, DJ Tara, Your Old Droog, and Percee P. The show, hosted by Madlib’s manager Stacy Epps and former Lootpack member Wildchild, seeks to bring the community together in support of a worthy cause.
The event announcement states, “NYC has showed love!!! This is what our community is about!! Coming together and showing love in times of need!!
