After nearly four decades, iconic British pop artist Kim Wilde might be making her return to the UK Top 10 Album Chart. With her latest release, “Closer,” the successor to her 1988 album “Close,” Wilde is currently tracking at No. 6. Interestingly, “Close” marks the last time she achieved Top 10 success.

Wilde describes “Closer” as a companion piece to her classic album. Drawing inspiration from her hits like “Hey Mister Heartache,” “You Came,” “Never Trust A Stranger,” and “Four Letter Word,” she considers these songs as the foundation for her new record. She emphasizes that “Closer” mirrors the diversity and storytelling present in “Close,” showcasing a mix of personal themes, love, and various musical genres.

In an exclusive interview with RETROPOP, she states, “It really is a sister album to ‘Close’ in many, many ways. It has the same diversity, the same sort of eclectic storytelling. Obviously, there’s a big emphasis on personal things and love and bigger themes. There’s dance on it. There’s rock on it. It’s as diverse as the ‘Close’ album and we really used that as a blueprint.”

With a fresh perspective and renewed creativity, Wilde’s “Closer” showcases her growth as an artist over the years. The album promises a blend of old and new, staying true to Wilde’s signature sound while offering listeners a fresh experience. As she continues her musical journey, fans eagerly await the impact of “Closer” on the charts and its reception among audiences worldwide.
