Rilo Kiley to reunite for tour with Phoenix show in May

A few weeks ago, the indie rock world was set ablaze with excitement as Rilo Kiley revealed their plans for the first live show in almost twenty years. The band, consisting of Jenny Lewis, Blake Sennett, Pierre De Reeder, and Jason Boesel, was added to the Pasadena, California, Just Like Heaven festival lineup set for May 10.

Now, the euphoria continues as Rilo Kiley announces a comprehensive U.S. tour for May, with a stop on May 12 at The Van Buren in Phoenix. This tour also includes appearances at the Kilby Block Party and Treefort Music Fest.

Rilo Kiley’s journey began in 1998, gaining traction only with the release of their debut album, “Take-Offs and Landings,” in 2001. Despite regular releases and tours, internal conflicts arose in 2010/2011, hinting at potential lengthy hiatuses. In 2014, Lewis officially confirmed the band’s split, but she and Sennett reunited at Coachella 2015 to perform “Portions for Foxes.”

The band appears to be capitalizing on the current wave of nostalgia for early 2000s indie rock.

“This upcoming tour will be truly special for us, reminiscent of returning to one’s purest self, that early twenties era where anything seems possible,” Lewis expressed. “We’re in a van, Jason navigating, Pierre at the wheel, and I’m strumming a new song with Blake on the bench seat with a beat-up acoustic guitar. I don’t think it gets better than those moments, where it was just us against the universe.”

Aside from the tour, Rilo Kiley has revealed a special reissue of their 2002 album, “The Execution of All Things.” The “Frozen Lake Edition,” set for release on April 25 via Saddle Creek, will come in three versions: a deluxe LP (featuring cloudy transparent and cream vinyl), a limited edition 7-inch (transparent vinyl), and an LP (cloudy clear vinyl) and CD. Stay tuned for a tour preview while tickets go on sale on February 7 at 10 a.m. local time through RiloKiley.com.
