Let’s take a trip down memory lane to 40 years ago when David Lee Roth made his solo debut with the Crazy From The Heat EP on January 28th, 1985. The EP quickly climbed the charts, reaching the Top 15 on the Billboard 200 and earning platinum certification from the RIAA. Roth’s renditions of “Just a Gigolo/I Ain’t Got Nobody” and “California Girls” by The Beach Boys also became Billboard Hot 100 hits, with the latter hitting No. 3. Fun fact: Crazy From The Heat later inspired Roth’s best-selling autobiography title in 1997.
Following the success of the EP, Roth released his first full-length solo album, Eat ‘Em And Smile, on July 7th, 1986. This album rocked its way into the Top 5 of the Billboard 200 and went platinum, thanks to hits like “Yankee Rose,” “Tobacco Road,” and “That’s Life.” Critics hailed it as “Album Of The Year,” and Roth hit the road on the unforgettable Eat ‘Em And Smile tour.
In 1987, Roth returned to the Top 10 with the platinum album Skyscraper, featuring the hit “Just Like Paradise.” The ’90s kicked off with A Little Ain’t Enough in 1991, another gold-certified success, and continued with Your Filthy Little Mouth in 1994, produced by the legendary Nile Rodgers. Roth’s collaboration with Rodgers produced memorable tracks like “She’s My Machine.”
Fans can relive Roth’s iconic music with the track listings from each album included in The Warner Recordings 1985-1994 box set. From “Easy Street” to “No Big ‘Ting,” these albums showcase the range and talent of the one and only Diamond Dave. With over 70 million records sold worldwide, a Grammy Award nomination, and a place in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, David Lee Roth continues to shine as a true rock ‘n’ roll legend.
