Blondshell, the musical project led by Sabrina Teitelbaum, is gearing up for the release of her highly anticipated second album, If You Asked For A Picture, which is scheduled to drop on May 2, 2025. The big news comes hand in hand with the unveiling of her latest single, ‘T&A’, a track that weaves together humor, self-reflection, and vulnerability into a serendipitous love tale.

In discussing the song, Teitelbaum mentions its inspiration from the Rolling Stones track ‘Little T&A’, where the lyrics reference ‘tits and ass’. She wanted ‘T&A’ to be a blend of both sexual and romantic elements, aiming to craft a love story that feels narrative-rich, albeit not your typical fairy tale romance.

Accompanying the single is a music video directed by Hannah Bon, which cleverly flips the script on the age-old saying of “men are like dogs” by pairing rescue dogs with human counterparts. The visual treatment strikes a balance between cheekiness and contemplation, shining a light on the vulnerability that often hides beneath a facade.

Turning to the album’s title, Teitelbaum drew inspiration from Mary Oliver’s poem “Dogfish,” published in 1986. The poem delves into the nuances of sharing personal experiences while also holding back some parts for oneself. For Teitelbaum, this notion deeply resonated during the album’s creation, embodying the idea of selectively revealing moments rather than the entirety of one’s story.

Teitelbaum reflects on how If You Asked For A Picture differs from her debut album, noting that while the first record felt more straightforward, this new offering is more open-ended, with a multitude of questions waiting to be explored. She reunited with producer Yves Rothman for this project, taking a bolder and more experimental approach. The sonic landscape of the album draws inspiration from a range of sources, including the gritty vibes of Queens of the Stone Age’s Rated R and the introspective polish of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Californication. The end result is a blend of massive hooks and intimate ballads that push the boundaries and reframe traditional rock aesthetics through a feminine lens.

Teitelbaum finds empowerment in reclaiming sonic elements typically associated with male artists, intertwining them with her introspective musings on the experiences of young womanhood. Since her debut in 2023, Blondshell has undergone a notable evolution, garnering critical acclaim and setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting new chapter in her musical journey.
