The Castanea Township Recreation Committee has exciting news! They’ve announced the very first Pennsylvania Chestnut Festival, set to take place on Saturday, January 25th from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Castanea Fireman’s Picnic Grounds Building, 859 Lower Creek Road, Piper Memorial Airport in Lock Haven.

This festival, funded by the township supervisors, Clinton County Economic Partnership and Visitors Bureau, and Clinton County Commissioners, is all about celebrating the heritage of chestnut trees and honoring the naming of Castanea for the chestnut.

What can you expect at this free admission festival? Well, get ready for live music, chestnut-based foods and beverages, vendors, exhibitors, a portable ice rink, and s’mores over outdoor burn barrels. Sounds like a fun time for everyone involved!

Musical performances are on the agenda, with the John Stevens Doubleshot Polka Band kicking things off at 2 p.m. This band from northeast PA has quite the history, having appeared at numerous festivals and on Pennsylvania Polka. They’ve even landed spots on the “Best New Songs” list and had chart-topping hits over the years. Their mission? To get people of all ages grooving to polka music.

At 5 p.m., get ready for Private Stock Trio, a Lock Haven based band, to take the stage. This trio specializes in folk, country, and acoustic rock hits, and they have a dedicated fan base in the region.

Food-wise, Farmstead Fusion caterers will be serving up delicious dishes like Sausage and Chestnut Stuffing Balls, Chestnut, Bacon and Parsnip Bisque, Winter Greens Salad with Chestnut Vinaigrette, and other tasty treats. There’s even a children’s menu available, as well as hot chocolate, soda, and a variety of alcoholic beverages from Bald Birds Brewing Company.

Throughout the festival, you’ll find vendors and crafters showcasing their goods. Plus, the PA Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation will be there to share information about the chestnut tree and its comeback.
